I may be a little biased, but Minnesota has to be one of the best states to live and grow up in. Yes, we have mosquitos but thank God for bug spray. Yes, we have humidity in the summers but thank god for endless lakes and hairspray. And yes, some of us get made fun of for our thick accents. “Oh ya?” “Uhm Ya, don’t.care.”
First off, we have great exotic cuisine. My husband recently had a coworker over for dinner from California who was just craving Tatertot Hotdish. Even if you are the type of person that would find it fitting to have this sign in your kitchen...
ANYONE can make this meal. But he didn’t know that… It was this special thing in his mind. If you really want to look the part, you can buy an adorable apron at Market on Oak. Don’t want that Cream of Mushroom to splatter all over ya! So Being the sub-par cook that I am, I threw the really difficult complicated ingredients together and popped it in the oven. And “Oh.my.gawd! This is amazing stuff!” You would think I was Rachel Ray by his reaction.
Land of 10,000 Lakes. Need I say more!? I grew up in a town where life revolved around a lake like many Minnesotans. Growing up was spent with walking to the beach, getting picked up at my neighbor’s docks to go out on friends’ boats and attempting to be a cool wakeboard chick. Keyword: Attempt. The lakes are the major thing that define our state. We have more shoreline than California, Florida and Hawaii combined. Also, did you know there is one boat for every six people in our state?
With the lakes, comes our numerous cabins. There is just something about the whole up north vibe. We have so many great destination spots about an hour out of the twin cities. The pine trees, lakes, bluffs, waterfalls, etc! Northern Minnesota is so beautiful and a perfect way to spend any weekend!
In 2011 the “Surly Bill” was passed here that allowed breweries to sell their craft brews on site. It has been seven years and MN is now the No. 10 Craft Brewing State in the nation. We have a lot of good local craft beers. Surly in Minneapolis is a fun spot to hang on a Friday night next to a bonfire outside, or take a tour at Summit in St. Paul or drive to downtown Lakeville to their brewery. Your options are pretty much endless with breweries popping up in a lot of towns!
These are just a few reasons why Minnesota rocks. I will proudly wear any of our cute MN jewelry because I love our state..
And it will always be...
Awwww. How sweet right?
There is a spot in our yard I have been staring at for two summers now. It is drab, can get full of weeds and is just an eye sore. Well this is the weekend folks! Gettin’ er done! Going to buy some mulch, attempt splitting some hosta without killing them and getting my green thumb on. Wish me luck, I am going to need it!
Working at Market on Oak, it is hard to not spend part of my paycheck here! The metal stars are super popular right now on people’s houses and I am eyeing one for myself as well! I have the perfect spot for it by my front door. Recently some customers came in from California asking about these and why so many people have them on their houses here. “What does it mean? What does it signify?” Uhm..cause they look nice!? I was curious and they are actually called Barnstars. They are meant to represent good luck! They increased in popularity after the Civil War and were popular in the Pennsylvania area and in Midwest German farming communities. Aka good ol’ Minne-SOH-tah. They have made a comeback though and are now being used on modern day houses as well. Thank you Joanna Gaines AND Market on Oak!
I think it is important to not only decorate the interior of your home to your liking, but also the outside. Give it some personality and taste! We have many items that would look great in any yard. We recently got in these glass flowers from a local artist made from old plates and bowls. They are so cool looking.
Fairy Gardens are always fun with the kiddos and we can help you with that as well.
Plus adding some cute signs on a shed is always a nice touch. People might think I am an actual gardener if I have a sign on my shed right?
Who doesn’t want to look at their yard and think.. dang it is cute out here! Or if you have been like me the past two years…. Ughhh I need to weed that…. ;)
How in the world is our inventory always evolving and staying with current trends? We have great vendors! One of which is located in Cannon Falls twenty minutes from us. Midwest-CBK has great home decor products, clothing and seasonal gifts. Since they are so close we decided it was time for all five of us to make the drive to see their new product firsthand! We pulled up to a typical looking business building, but once inside it was as if we were transported to a huge store with so much cute stuff on display!
Brenda is our rep and she did a great job putting up with our shenanigans. She was very informative and provided great input on the hottest selling items right now too. The whole point of us making a trip to Midwest-CBK was to pick out new inventory for Market on Oak! It was like shopping in a huge store with money that isn’t yours! Haha It was great!
“We’ll take that…that ….and oooo ..THAT!”
All five of us that work at Market on Oak have varying tastes which only adds to our product variability. And more likely you will like what we picked out too! You can expect more home and outdoor decor to add more character and charm to your house! The first shipment should be arriving within two weeks. You will have to come check it out!
After our visit to Midwest-CBK we decided it was still not time to go home. It was time for wine! If you are ever in the area I suggest going to check out Cannon Falls Winery. They have fantastic wine and a great open atmosphere. Well… I am pregnant so the wine SMELLED fantastic, but I ate almost half a block of cheese so that made up for it I guess? Please see below for the name of the wine. How can it NOT be good!?
The rest of the night was spent with a lot of laughs and dinner. Overall it was a fun night out and awesome to see the products our vendor had and what will soon be in stock at the store. We will have something for everyone. Be sure to make your way over to Market on Oak soon!
